My doctor’s office called me with some bad news.
Although my doctor was able to put me on the waiting list for the Covid-19 vaccine, I was pretty far down on the list. The best guess was that the soonest I would be able to get the vaccine was in late 2021. That’s because the law requires that the vaccine be given to prisoners before it can be given to healthy people like me.
But for the one-time low payment of $499.99 my doctor could move me to the top of the list and I would be able to get the vaccine within just a matter of weeks. All I had to do was give them my credit card number.
Believe it? Don’t. It wasn’t my doctor’s office on the phone. It was a scam. (However, it is true, in Louisiana at least, that people in prisons and jails are scheduled to get the vaccine before “workers in industries and occupations important to the functioning of society and at increased risk of exposure.”)
